13. Avrupa Futbol Şampiyonası Eleme Grubu karşılaşmasında Türkiye ile Yunanistan ilk yarıyı 0-0 berabere tamamladı.
Karşılaşmanın ilk dakikalarından itibaren oyunu Yunanistan yarı alanına yıkmak isteyen milliler, kanatlardan atak organizasyonlarıyla tehlike yaratmaya çalıştıysa da bunda başarılı olamadı. İlk yarıda net bir gol pozisyonu yaratamayan (A) Milli Takım, savunmasında verdiği açıklara karşın ilk yarıyı 0-0’lık eşitlikle tamamlamayı bildi.

Greece has begun moving the ancient sculptures from the Acropolis in Athens to a new home - a museum at the foot of the hilltop citadel.
Crowds of bystanders watched the first of the monuments gingerly lifted by cranes at the 2,500-year-old Parthenon.
Thousands of antiquities will be moved, mostly marble sculptures from the fifth and sixth centuries BC.
Greek officials hope the new site will boost the country's long campaign for the return of the Elgin Marbles.
The Elgin Marbles are a collection of sculptures that were removed from the Parthenon 200 years ago and are now part of a collection at the British Museum in London.
'Historic event'
Greek Culture Minister Michael Liapis told Reuters news agency: "It is the first time in 2,500 years the Parthenon marbles are moved.
"It's a historic event not just for Greece but the international community."
The antiquities - which are insured for 400m euros (£280m) - are being removed from the old museum next to the Parthenon.
Three giant cranes are expected to take six weeks to transfer the sculptures 400 metres (1,300ft) down the hill to a new ultra-modern museum, which is set to open next year.

UNESCO confirms that it is not involved in the “New 7 wonders of the world” campaign
In order to avoid any damaging confusion, UNESCO wishes to reaffirm that there is no link whatsoever between UNESCO’s World Heritage programme, which aims to protect world heritage, and the current campaign concerning “The New 7 Wonders of the World”.
This campaign was launched in 2000 as a private initiative by Bernard Weber, the idea being to encourage citizens around the world to select seven new wonders of the world by popular vote.
Although UNESCO was invited to support this project on several occasions, the Organizaton decided not to collaborate with Mr. Weber.
UNESCO’s objective and mandate is to assist countries in identifying, protecting and preserving World Heritage. Acknowledging the sentimental or emblematic value of sites and inscribing them on a new list is not enough. Scientific criteria must be defined, the quality of candidates evaluated, and legislative and management frameworks set up. The relevant authorities must also demonstrate commitment to these frameworks as well as to permanently monitoring the state of conservation of sites. The task is one of technical conservation and political persuasion. There is also a clear educational role with respect to the sites’ inherent value, the threats they face and what must be done to prevent their loss.
There is no comparison between Mr Weber’s mediatised campaign and the scientific and educational work resulting from the inscription of sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List*. The list of the “7 New Wonders of the World” will be the result of a private undertaking, reflecting only the opinions of those with access to the internet and not the entire world. This initiative cannot, in any significant and sustainable manner, contribute to the preservation of sites elected by this public.
Stathis comment: I agree, but it is better to prevent a situation than to try to apologise after. For me, the new 7 wonders is just a way for making money. Nothing less - nothing more. Finish.

Troops in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, have stormed a controversial mosque after talks with hardline Islamists inside broke down.
The army says about 50 militants and eight soldiers have been killed.
"It is a final push to clear the place of armed militants," said military spokesman Maj Gen Waheed Arshad.
Students at the mosque and its attached religious schools have been defying the authorities for months in their campaign for Sharia law in the capital.

Australia 'has Iraq oil interest'
Australia has about 1,500 military personnel in the Gulf
Australian Defence Minister Brendan Nelson has admitted that securing oil supplies is a key factor behind the presence of Australian troops in Iraq.
He said maintaining "resource security" in the Middle East was a priority.
But PM John Howard has played down the comments, saying it was "stretching it a bit" to conclude that Australia's Iraq involvement was motivated by oil.

Vanunu sentenced to new jail term
An Israeli court has sent former nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu back to jail for six months for breaking the conditions of his parole.
Vanunu was released in 2004 after an 18-year sentence for disclosing Israeli nuclear secrets, but he faced curbs including speaking to foreign media.

Will Turkey srike Iraq?
Who cares; they did worst things in the past. But the Kurdish problem is not based in northern Iraq, it is based in Turkey, and that is what needs to be addressed.
Despite strong U.S. opposition, Turkey keeps threatening to attack the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which is based in the mountains of northern Iraq.
The PKK has been fighting for Kurdish self-rule in south-eastern Turkey since 1984. It has strong support, with many Kurds in Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey dreaming of an independent state.

BRUSSELS -- The European Commission reaffirmed its position that “the decision on Kosovo should be made at the UN Security Council.”
“EU enlargement commissioner Olli Rehn has called for a clear, sustainable solution for the region, without any unnecessary delays,” Rehn’s spokeswoman Christina Nagy told the press.
She added that the EU supported the proposal by Martti Ahtisaari as a basis for a new UN resolution.
Asked to comment whether Olli Rehn regarded U.S. President George Bush’s recent statements as constructive with respect to the talks currently taking place in the UN Security Council, and whether it was a good way to confront Russia on the issue, Nagy said she believed “it would not be advisable for her to pass judgments on statements given by any agents involved in the issue who were to decide on it in the Council.”
Nonetheless, she underscored that European Commission’s standpoint was clear.
“With Kosovo’s future in mind, we call for a resolution as an unambiguous legal and political decision,” she stressed.

Libya: The son of Kantafj, optimistic for the five nurses from Bulgaria

G8 leaders reach $60bn Aids deal
G8 leaders meeting in Germany have vowed to deliver on pledges to Africa, and agreed a $60bn (£30bn) package for fighting Aids, malaria and TB.
